CODAPP: meeting goal and objectives

In the last year the Partnership has been working on meeting CODAAP goals and objectives.

  1. Towards the goal of decreasing ATOD in young people, we have:
    • distributed 50,000 information packets at drug free community days, community programs, health fairs, workshops, training events, summer youth programs, youth conferences;
    • educated 1000 children and young adults through the Youth Risk Reduction program, 3-day youth conference, training over 40 youth trainers to work with other young people;
    • worked with over 400 youth around relating their life experiences through Youth Risk Reduction programs, and community-based programs such as citywide improvement and Planning Agency;
    • been the major clearing house for distribution of materials, (Demand has increased and we have assigned one staff person to handle this);
    • reached 5000 residents through fairs such as the Black Family Reunion and Unity Day and through the Latino Initiative tutoring programs.


  2. Towards the goal of increasing parenting monitoring their children and decreasing school suspensions, we have:
    • worked with over 500 parents to date on conflict resolution skills;
    • reach over 500 teachers and counselors on recognizing youth problems;
    • disseminated information to 50,000 households about ATOD services and programs;
    • trained the staffs of over 50 agencies on strategies to meet the needs of youth.


  3. Towards the goal of decreasing the drop-out rate, we have:
    • developed a tutoring program;
    • held workshops for over 100 children on values and life-skills training.


  4. Towards the goal of enhancing Youth Risk Reduction network and community-based prevention programs in high-risk neighborhoods to decrease gang violence, graffiti, drunk and disorderly behavior, we have:
    • set up drug-free events in the northeast
    • are developing block cleanups and neighborhood garden programs;
    • have held and are expanding youth leadership workshops which are culturally and community-based;
    • have developed and held retreats for young people to promote cross-cultural and cross-generation awareness.


    ..The Partnership will continue to meet and, in some cases, exceed the objectives laid out by CODAAP through the progress described below.
